Just getting started with Windows 7, and one annoyance is that on startup some of my desktop icons are out of place every time. Right clicking the desktop shows auto arrange icons and align icons to grid is unselected, as it should be, to keep my custom arrangement intact. So I've been using DesktopOK, freeware, for a couple of weeks with great success. One click on Restore puts everything back the way I like it. It has another feature I like: it can automatically hide all my desktop icons, including the system icons, until I click once on the desktop. Now I can see this incredibly beautiful desktop background picture without any clutter at all. The icons disappear again after no mouse activity is detected for a select time. Here's a description and review from CNET. If you download from the owner, SoftwareOK, you'll get the latest version. The 64 bit version is labeled, and the 32 bit, I'm assuming, is desktopOK.zip. It's written in German, so just click the little flag after running the file to change it to English.

A couple of things about DesktopOK I just learned: There's an "abl" button on the tool bar. It allows you to rename a desktop layout. Sometimes on Windows start, it doesn't run. When that happens, there's an update available from the owner.
